# Epithalamin in an elderly human cohort

> The human cohort — The Premier Med Spa — The Premier Med Spa examines an observational Epithalamin cohort: 266 elderly people, mortality associations and the preparation actually studied.

**2003**

The preparation’s name matters before the mortality figures can mean much.

## Epithalamin, alone and in combination

The [human follow-up report](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14523363/) described an observational study of 266 elderly people over 6–8 years. It studied the pineal peptide Epithalamin, alone and combined with thymalin, against untreated controls. The study was neither randomized nor placebo-controlled.

The name in that sentence deserves its full space. Elsewhere on this site, the [Epitalon review](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40141333/) describes an AEDG tetrapeptide, and the [cell-line paper](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40908429/) studies Epitalon. The human cohort names Epithalamin and a combination with another peptide. I won’t silently recast those preparations as interchangeable.

This is a question of credit as much as caution. If a report studied a named preparation in particular people, its observations stay attached to that preparation and those people. A nearby name has no automatic entitlement to the result.

## The mortality associations

In the [elderly cohort](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14523363/), Epithalamin alone was associated with a 1.6–1.8-fold mortality decrease versus untreated controls. The report also described a 4.1-fold decrease for the combined thymalin–Epithalamin group. These are the study’s reported associations; the design was observational, with no randomization or placebo control.

I feel the pull of those figures. Mortality is an outcome with an immediate human weight that an enzyme assay cannot have. That makes the design more consequential to my judgment, rather than something to put aside because the result sounds impressive.

Without random allocation, I cannot attribute the observed difference confidently to the peptide preparation. The association warrants interest, while a causal claim would ask the comparison to carry more than its design can support. Nor does the combination result identify the contribution of each component.

## Where that leaves Epitalon

The [human cohort](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14523363/) is worth discussing on its own terms. It gives an observational mortality report in elderly people receiving Epithalamin-based preparations. It supplies neither a randomized test of Epitalon nor a reason to borrow the combination’s figure for the tetrapeptide.

I’d read a better human study eagerly, objections and all. I’d welcome a trial that identifies the preparation precisely and tests outcomes meaningful to the people enrolled. That is a wish for further evidence, not a description of a result already obtained.

For now, Give me an untidy cast list over a seamless longevity story. The [normal-cell and cancer-cell results](/cell-lines), the [animal lifespans](/lifespans) and this human report each retain their own subjects. They become more interesting when their differences are allowed to remain visible.

At The Premier Med Spa I examine the cast of published research, from cells to human cohorts, as a reader running a publication rather than a business, and none of it is medical advice.
